FAQs

1.     What services do we offer at Inner Edge?

Our Sport and Performance Psychologist is Karen Lo. Karen offers individual sessions to clients in the development and maintenance of successful mental and emotional resources that would lead to improvements in their competition.  A few common challenges of her clients include handling wins and losses, performance slumps, stress and anxiety management, inability to fully focus, doing well in practice but not in auditions or competition etc.

Apart from performance enhancement, she also assists her clients in building their capacity to manage adversity, attaining wellbeing in their careers, as well as managing the demands of life alongside their performance ambitions.

2.     My child performs quite a lot but he is really young and I don’t know what I can do to help. What should I do?

Karen works with athletes and performers ages 8 and above, so if he/she/they meet(s) the age requirements, they are welcome to book an initial session.  There may be cases where a parent session may be equally beneficial. Karen usually meets with the athlete or performer once first for a session before she speaks with the parent on what can work best for their child.

3.     Does Karen watch me compete or perform?

Yes, this is certainly an option. The need for this will be discussed in the first few sessions. It is helpful for Karen to watch the client compete or perform as this will allow her to better understand the sport, genre and competitive environment, and how the client responds in different complex and competitive situations. Karen also offers on-field support, both locally and overseas, if there is a need to.

4.     How long and how frequent does it take to see progress?

Karen tailors her sessions to meet clients’ specific needs. Most clients choose to work with Karen on a regular long-term basis and consult her in blocks of 6 or 12 sessions. Typically, we predict around 6 weekly sessions to build a good foundation for sport psychology training and then subsequent, less frequent follow up sessions after this. This however is an estimate and each client is unique to the next. The more time and energy you spend working on your mental game, the greater the potential for improvement.

5. Can I access Inner Edge's services remotely?

Yes, we offer remote services to clients that are living, training and competing overseas. We also provide group workshops and individual consultations irrespective of your geographical location, as long as they fall within our office hours. We offer in-person services for those residing in Hong Kong. Clients from Macau are also welcome to schedule an appointment at our HK office.

6.     I am not an athlete nor a performer. However, I have learned that sport psychology can help with my work or school, and personal life. Can I still book a session?

Yes. Karen specializes in the area of optimal performance and maximizing full potential in performance areas and beyond. Apart from athletes and performers, Karen also works with anyone who is looking for change, from full-time students to working and corporate professionals that work in highly complex, competitive environments.
